A cheeky chat from Chowdnapore.
I got a spam call the other day that was different. Usual ” private ” number and usual moment’s disrespectful silence before the line opened. Then it came on with the sound of a steam room in the back…but no operator.
I waited for the talk, but none came. I could hear papers being shuffled on the desk and the creaking of a chair, while other voices were talking in the room; some in English, some in Hindi.
I said hello and tried to attract attention, but to no avail.
I think I had an oddity – a line opened up unbeknownst to the person at the desk with the phone active. I was eavesdropping a scam steam room. I felt slightly guilty…
I put down the receiver and crept away.
