Don’t Make Disaster Your Desire

Or vice versa. And if you like your vice versa, wash your hands before cutting the tea cake. I won’t have any…

Some people court disaster. They may be terrible at achieving financial or social success, but as soon as there is a chance of making a mess of things they are the go-to experts. They have plans and resources and dedication. They can, and they do, and the world is a smoking ruin because of them.

Other people do not want to fail, but are equally uncomfortable with success. They are happiest in the grey middle somewhere. If you are one of these people you may regard yourself as a balanced individual. All of us have seen Wile E. Coyote when he was balanced and it was generally over a precipice…

What to do? Do well, if you can – do it to others and to yourself. Find out what well actually is…it rarely involves screeching tyres or dramatic statements or expensive possessions. It can be produced with very simple ingredients and you never need apologise for it or be ashamed. It can be done immediately you get up in the morning and carried on until you hit the sack at the end of the evening.

And it is cumulative. One good deed can make a good day. One good day can make a good week. And so on. Don’t get too ambitious – few of us can make a good century.
